It is obvious that every new golfer would like to know how to dive his ball straight. This is so because the driver is one of the most difficult clubs to master. Of course everyone knows that the longer the club the harder it is to master. That does not mean, however, that it is not possible to drive a golf ball straight. With the right tips and lots of practice you could get it right.

Golf Swing Instruction

The very best shot off the tee is one that does not impart a lot of backspin to the ball, travels low, and has enough power to add yards by rolling once it lands. If you can achieve all of these elements, your game will improve significantly.

One of the first steps to learning how to drive a golf ball straight is understanding the importance of leverage throughout the entire swing. To achieve proper leverage, keep your head behind the golf ball from address to impact.

You have to realize that distance comes more from club head speed that from arm strength. If you try to put too much strength to hitting the ball you would mostly end up with a badly hit shot. Use your hips and legs to generate the power behind the ball, make sure to engage both in the action of hitting the ball.

Other clubs may be somewhat flexible when it comes to swing path, but not the driver. As you begin your backswing, keep the swing plane low (or shallow).

Ensure that your hands are leading the club head at impact. This is what is meant by the term “Let your wrists break.”

A most common terrible mistake that many newbies at golf make is that they try to stop their swing once the ball is hit. Your arms and body, however, must move all the way through the swing with over the shoulders.

If the club is held too tightly , it would also be a deterrent to hitting the ball straight. You have to think about a whipping action rather than a chopping action when hitting the ball.

{If you have a tendency to slice the ball, try slowing your downswing. Try not to come down too fast or too hard ,as that action would cause you to come out of the proper swing path. |If you have a tendency to slice the ball, try slowing your downswing. You may be coming down too fast or too hard, causing you to come out of the proper swing path. }

Examine your grip carefully as when trying to avoid the slice. You should be able to see two or three knuckles as you look down on your grip to prevent a slice.

This same grip tip applies to those who hook the ball. If you look down at your grip and see more than two or three knuckles, your grip is going to change at impact and cause a severe hook.

Always make sure that you are not pulling or pushing the ball, as this is sure to make you not hit the ball straight. You may find yourself doing this hitting off the fairway or coming off the tee.

Golf Swing Instruction

One way to tell if you are pulling or pushing is by looking at the divot that’s left behind. Your body is not properly aligned if the divot is pointing to the or left or right of your target line.

Your game would surely improve if you implement some of these tips. Remember the best tip that can be given is to keep on practicing as no amount of knowledge can make up for the actual experience of doing it continuouslly.

online golf lessons

Before I begin, I am going to first give you the definition of the 4 uneven lies in golf.

Uphill Lie – The easiest of the four uneven lies. The ball is level with your feet but the slope is up-hill, we refer to this as an uphill lie.

Downhill Lie – A ball that is level to your feet but the slope is down hill, probably the second most difficult shot in golf.

Ball Below Feet – The most difficult shot in golf is when the ball is below your feet.

Ball Above Feet – The fourth uneven lie is when the ball is above your feet.

Do not get confused between an uphill lie, and when the ball is simply above your feet. These are two different lies, & should be addressed separately. Also, don’t get confused with the downhill lie, & the golf ball being below your feet. Again, these are two different lies.

Uphill Lie

Let’s start with the easiest shot in golf, the up-hill lie. If you struggle with this shot, you probably swing the golf club to vertical into the ground and hit a fat shot. Before you prepare for an uphill lie, you need to think of a few other important items first. Make sure you take a less lofted club. When you have an uphill lie, it will cause the ball tgo HIGHER and SHORTER.

The ball will have a tendency to hook to the left, so aim a little to the right.

To avoid hitting the shot fat, check your shoulder alignment and make sure they are parallel to the ground you are standing on. If you are on an uphill lie, your back shoulder needs to be a little lower than your leading shoulder.

The golf ball should be positioned according to what club you are using, as though your on a level lie. (A bit forward for longer golf clubs.)

You want to make sure you follow through HIGH after impact.

Downhill Lie

Now we can move on to one of the hardest shots in golf, the down hill lie. If you have a tendency to struggle with this shot, the miss hit is normally a top. Follow the following steps and you will see a huge change in your down hill shots.

Because the ball will fly lower, you can take a more lofted club to help the ball go a little higher.

The ball will have a tendency to curve to the right, aim a little to the left.

If you have your shoulders at address tilted level to the down slope of your lie, this will encourage the club to swing DOWN into the ball (correct) and not up in the down swing. Thus, you’ll hit the bottom of the ball and not the top.

Play the ball in your stance according to the golf club you are using (again, a bit forward for a longer club).

You want to make sure you follow through LOW to the ground after impact.

Ball Below Feet

THE HARDEST SHOT IN GOLF. The dreaded, (How is this happening to me) BALL BELOW YOUR FEET golf shot. Your in the right place, below is the answer.

When the golf ball is below your feet, you have the tendency to top it to the right, whiff the ball, or shank it.

The address is the absolute most important part of this shot. Bend the knees and bend WAY over at address. You ALMOST can not bend TOO much.

The ball will have a tendency to go to the right, aim farther left.

The golf club wants to swing up & down, NOT around. LET IT…It will feel like a lob swing, this is correct. IF you take your normal swing, you will whiff the ball completely.

Ball Above Feet

Now we are back to an easy shot, the ball above our feet. If you follow the steps below, you will not hit the ground behind the ball anymore, and the ball above your feet will become your absolute favorite shot in golf

If you struggle with hitting the ball fat in these shots, make sure you are standing taller than your normal stance.

The ball will have a tendency to fly to the left, aim a little farther to the right.

DO NOT BEND YOUR KNEES

This is the main point, the golf club wants to swing more AROUND your body, let it…DO NOT TRY TO MAKE A NORMAL SWING…let the club swing around you.

Now, forget everything you knew about uneven lies and try this out. I KNOW IT WILL HELP!

Most golfers will say the hardest part of their game is focus. The mental side of golf is one spoken of but often overlooked. You know your friend the one who golfs well every time he goes out? Why is that? Practice, they practice. What they usually do not share is, what they are practicing at. They practice at mental toughness; golf has often been referred to as 10% Talent 90% mental. When overcoming that mental side of golf, do you try to change your equipment, the time at which you play, maybe even they guys you play with. Here are some tips that are going to help you be, the golfer, you always wanted to be.

The tempo of golf is often a distraction for golfers, you are stuck behind a slow foursome DISTRACTING or maybe the guys behind you are rushing you DISTRACTING and you feel that pressure to golf faster. The tempo of the course should never affect the tempo of your swing. The tempo of your swing is so important; to achieve the desired results. How do I find MY tempo you ask? A golfer can find their tempo by doing these simple things:

SLOW DOWN!! I repeat slow down, everyone thinks the speed at which you swing dictates how far and accurate your ball will move. This is true is some instances, but, for the sake of this article we will not be discussing those concepts. The tempo we are going to discuss today, is going to deal with how you approach every single shot in your game, you need to have the same back swing, contact, and follow through on every swing. How are you going to practice this TEMPO? Go to the driving range and practice with one club at a time. Take your driver and hit 20 balls, then take your 9 iron and hit 20 balls work your way in 3W-8I and on until you have hit them all. To perfect your back swing come to the same position every time. When you hit the ball you should be contacting at the same speed every time. Some people have the misconception that you should swing harder and faster with big clubs and slower and softer with smaller clubs. You really want to be swinging all of your clubs at the same speed, you will see great improvement on how well you make contact with the ball. When you are working on your follow through it will be the same as your back swing, you will want it to be the same with every club. Your follow through will affect your accuracy a 100% of the time. When you focus on these three techniques you will find that your mental game will improve.

After the practice on the driving range is done you will want to head to the chipping green. You will want to work with your Wedge, 60deg, 8I, and 9I. Practice 100 chips with each club. When you start in the deep stuff focus on yout tempo and making sure you land every ball on the green. When chipping just focus on your tempo, using the same stroke every time. Remember chipping should be another tool in your arsenal and not the final result. Many careers have been made from singles and doubles hitters it is not just the home run hitters that decide how games turnout. The idea is to get on the green and let your putter do the work. The 8i and 9i will be used to work out the tempo of the bump and run technique. Tempo here is the key still but keep in mind that now you have too much club for such a short distance. Your tempo is what matters!! Imagine you are still hitting that same wedge, Change the Club not the Tempo!!

Putting Putting Putting! This is so hard to understand but why? Now we have gone from the Driving range to the chipping green to the putting green. What you want to practice here is the same thing! You want to work on your tempo. You putt the same every time, you will not be changing your swing ever. The only thing about putting that changes is the distance. Start by sinking 10 putts in a row from 1ft away after you have done this, move out to 2ft, repeat until you sink 10 in a row from 10ft away. Stay focused on your tempo.

The goal for these exercises is to teach your to go through the same steps every time. When you are working on you tempo you need to understand that you are separating your self from the game; you are working on you. When you take the time to build on your tempo you will see results!! The game is 90% mental; set a clock in your mind that only allows for the same tempo no matter when or where you are golfing. When your body starts to do the same thing every single time, your mind will become more focused on the task at hand.

For most people, taking golf lessons means going to a professional who can share their skill and experience; but did you know that you can also take golf lessons online?
golf videos

The PurePoint Golf swing theory points you in the right direction and gives you a system of fundamentals to measure yourself against. In golf this is very important; however situations arise where you just can’t figure out why you are having certain difficulties. Whether your problem is hitting behind the ball or hitting the golf ball thin, sometimes we are clueless to where the problem lies.

We teach a fairly horizontal swing plane compared to most. Even though there are major benefits to this version of the swing certain complications can arise very quickly. This tip in particular was designed to keep players from hitting behind the ball. My objective is to inform you of all areas of the golf swing, so that when certain situations come up, you can adjust accordingly. And ultimately checkpoints pre-established.

The player(s) back shoulder in his/her backswing dips down; meaning that the back shoulder is lowering towards the ground. This is difficult to do when you have no lateral movement or weight shift back and away from the target, as we teach. However, this is pretty common among golfers that have a horizontal swing plane. The tendency is to drop your back shoulder as your swing plane becomes more horizontal.

Please understand that if you dip your back shoulder in your backswing this could cause several different problems in you swing. Your timing, hand position at impact, weight shift through the ball, and follow-through position can all be negatively affected.

Solution

Fortunately there is simple solution. Go to the practice range and take a ball. Place the golf ball underneath your back foot (please make sure that ½ the ball is in the ground so that you don’t topple over). If a ball is uncomfortable use a towel or something that is at least an inch off the ground. The ball should be placed underneath your back heel in order to ensure that you have no weight transfer and that your back shoulder does not dip in your backswing.

Then simply take your normal golf swing. If you choose you can hit a ball or you can just take a couple practice swings. Focus on not dipping your shoulder in your backswing (and keep your back shoulder up not down). I can guarantee that if you master this drill you will make solid contact with the ball on a more consistent basis.

This drill will force you to practice a swing with no weight shift back and away from your target and simultaneously help you with lowering your back shoulder.

Practice this drill and be contiinious that if you are having difficulty hitting behind the ball at any point in your round, the problem could lie in shoulder position in your backswing.

Golf fitness coach. Have you still considered one…and if so, what methodically were you looking for? There are many ‘frequent fitness’ trainers trying to purchase a piece of the golf fitness and training market that seems to be rapidly gaining exposure both on the television and inside print thanks to Tiger, Vijay and Annika.

But the first thing you require to consider when looking into hiring a golf fitness coach or program is the trainers experience in golf.

Yes…that is high on the list of requirements. Does he/she know golf? Do they know the biomechanics of the golf swing? How about muscle function during the golf swing?

An simple test is during the initial interview or if you’re researching it online is to either ask very golf specific swing technique questions; or take a look at the truth on the website. You’ll discover out real quick if this person or program be able to assist your golf swing, game and health.

A golf fitness coach or program must incorporate power, flexibility, endurance, body awareness, balance, stability and even a nutrition component.

It’s easy for a trainer to have a power component…but is it specific to golf? A quick test. Take a look at some of the exercises. Are several of them on seated machines for instance? If they are…run! This is NOT a golf fitness coach and/or program. This is considered ‘familiar fitness’.

At this moment stretching. There are dozens of stretches for each public. But take a look at several of them. Do they even remotely look like they will gain your golf swing?

Stretches involving trunk flexibility; lower back; hamstring; and even shoulders specific to the mechanics of the swing are what you choose. General stretches are greater than nothing, but will delay your results. You want specific stretches.

Body awareness. Does a few of the exercises resemble golf positions or phases of the swing? Do they look like you would be on your feet and inside your golf posture? Since stated above, if they are seated on machines, your body will learn nothing inside regards to your golf swing.

Training your body specific to golf incorporates positions almost identical to what your body would be inside during any section of the golf swing.

Stability. Training your body to enhance stability inside your swing can get a little complex if you essentially want to see results. The swing happens at between 80-100 miles an hour. One of the biggest flaws of amateur golfers is moving in their golf swing.

Moving either laterally (sliding), vertically (up and done) or both. This is death to your golf swing. To improve your stability involves specific power drills most trainers don’t even know about.

I possibly will go on-and-on about the requirements of a golf fitness coach or program. It is critical you make the right choice. I have heard horror stories of golfers working with ‘so-called’ golf fitness experts and their game getting worse. With the proper research this won’t happen to you. So definitely consider a golf fitness coach.

GENERATE POWER AT SETUP

We all want more power and distance.Whether you hit the ball 200 or 300 yards, adding an extra 10-15 yards to your driver gives any player confidence and a decisive advantage over the competition. Over the years as I have taught online golf lessons, many golfers have emailed me consistently with a breakdown of distance per club. They also provide where they would like to get to; usually 10-15 yards increase off the tee and from the fairway w/ their irons. The following tip is suggested to golfers who want an easy way to generate extra distance off the tee.I don’t recommend this set-up from the fairway or around the green, but it will give you and extra 10-15 yards off the tee. The is a simple breakdown including different ways that power and distance is generated in our golf swing (I want you to understand what generates power):

Solid Ball Contact: Not on heel or toe.

Hand rotation through the impact zone.

Weight shift through the ball.

Follow Through position: This is more of a check point.Club face up at follow- through = less power. Club face down at follow-through = more power.

Problem Lack of distance off the tee. Solution I am going to teach you a modified set-up that will allow for maximum power generation.Often players that have a slight draw generate more distance than players that hit a fade, so this set-up will put you in a position to hit a draw. This is also true for players on the PGA tour. The following, are steps to modify your set-up in order to allow for maximum distance generation:

Go through your normal set-up routine as we teach in the DVD.Remember to bend at the hips and not the stomach.

Close your stance: Move your trailing foot back so that your toes are parallel to the middle of your leading foot.

Put a little more weight on your front foot: Instead of 50/50 you will have 60% on your leading leg and 40% of your weight on your trailing leg.In essence you will almost be leaning a little forward at set-up.

Knee bend stays the same and take your normal swing, focusing on really shifting your weight & rotating your hands through the impact zone.

These modifications place your body in a more powerful position at set-up. Again only implement this set-up off the tee.You can try it with your irons on the practice range, and if you see amazing results then play with it on the course, but remember not to change your entire set-up for your irons. This tip is simply a modification to add extra distance off the tee.
Exercise for a golfer is widely used. Despite the success many professionals have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy in their game, mainly because of golf-specific exercises, many amateur golfers still shun any golf specific exercises.

Even when it is rather obvious that leading names in the game like the legendary Tiger Woods heavily rely on staying in good shape for the game by having personal trainers and by being involved in golf specific exercises.

By far the golfers belief that they will develop muscles, it’s the main reason why most still fear and avoid exercise. Actually lifting weights are a very effective way of toning the golf-specific muscles for the game, by strengthening them. Strength training uses weights will never increase the size of your muscles.

Nobody would loathe building big muscles more than most lady golfers. By increasing their strength through golf-specific weight training, yet many of them have dramatically improved their games.

Actually you need to be in the gym several hours a day lifting very heavy weights to develop a weight-lifters’ muscles. The weight-lifting exercise regime for golf involves lifting lighter weights many more times over a very short period of time compared to a weightlifter looking for muscles with heavier weights lifted fewer times at a time but for longer hours daily.

The fact that many lady golfers have been able to dramatically improve their game by getting involved in exercises for a golfers, but have not build heavy stiff muscles, should be encouragement enough for many amateurs to seriously consider exercise for a golfer programs.

Apart from weights, most of the exercises for a golfer involve stretch exercises designed to improve a golf swing. Some of these stretch exercises for a golfer can easily be done form the comfort of an offices or home when you have a moment to spare.

Golf weight training program. In a sport that hardly has any controversies; few issues have come as close to being controversial as golf weight training programs have. More so with amateur and non-professional golfer.

And yet if you really examine the facts, a golf weight training program need not be controversial at all.

Amongst the other golfers golf weight training programs are still looked on with a lot of fear and apprehension, although professionals have now fully embraced the benefit of golf weight training programs . These fears are of course mainly based on ignorance rather than enough solid facts and knowledge.

One of the greatest fears is that some of the golf weight training programs designed to build strength are too strenuous. Others fear that they will develop great big muscles that will make them stiff and yet flexibility is an important attribute for any golfer.

These fears are of course completely unjustified. Most golf weight training programs has been successfully completed by golfers who are as old as 80 years old. The junior golfers barely in their teens have also graduated from the same programs without any problem. Not to mention ladies golfers several of who are senior citizens.

Then it is significant to note that golf weight training programs are designed to increase strength and not to body build or build great huge muscles. Use of dumbbells are different for the two different objectives. For example lighter weights is used and they are lifted more times than the case would be for a bodybuilder dealing in much heavier weight.

Many good golf will also include certain stretch exercises using them on their weight training programs involving dumbbells . Stretch exercises are very good in improving golf swings.

When you take a closer look, golf weight training programs are really not be feared. Rather they should be embraced as they have helped many golfers revolutionize their game.

There is no doubt that the importance of a golf weight training program will continue to rise in the years to come.
