Travel Throughout New Zealand Playing Golf With A Group Of Your Friends Or By Yourself
The prime golfing event, the New Zealand open is hosted at The Hills Golf Course in Arrowtown, Central Otago, in the South Island.
The Remarkable Ranges which flanks one side of the glaciated lake of Lake Wakatipu, on the shores of which, Queenstown is placed, provides the background.
Having the land area of the United Kingdom, but only a population of only 4.3 million New Zealand brags having in excess of 300 offical golf clubs. Despite this there is also a number of 9 and 18 hole courses owned or attached to some of the beautiful hotels situated in perfect locations around New Zealand.
Mt Ruapehu, the largest mountain in the North Island and New Zealand’s most active, mainland volcano, plays host to one such 9 hole course.
The private nine hole course connected to the Grand Chateau Bay-view Hotel, is playable almost all year round except when now and then is covered in snow.
The Rangatira Golf Club not often played by tourists, due to its isolation to high quality accommodation is another superb course in the Rangitiki district.
The wonderful views are just one of the Rangatira Courses charms. Over millions of years the Rangitiki River has carved out the limestone gorge.
The course is cared for and presented to the highest standard by the courses proud devoted green staff. There are 6 occupying the 3 levelsĀ making its way down to the river. The 4 person electric cable car takes you back up to the clubhouse after completeing the 18th hole.
Traveling north, you come to the township of Taupo and Lake Taupo.
The largest lake in New Zealand is Lake Taupo, approximately 629 square kilometers.
2,000 years ago, this volcanic crater last erupted. The eruption of Lake Taupo was the most impressive eruptions in the world, within the last 2,000. The ancient Romans and Chinese have recorded in their annuals of history, a darkening of the skies and a red glow at night in the southern skies.
Located just a few minutes from the township of Taupo, is The Wairakei International Golf Course, rated by the prestigious US Golf Digest magazine to be in the top 100 courses in the world outside of the USA in 2005.
Despite the lack of views of Lake Taupo the course is beatified with many of New Zealand’s native trees and plants. To keep the native bird life and trees, the course is totally encompassed with a predator exclusion fence
The starting place of New Zealand’s recent history is towards the top of the North Island is an area called the Bay of Islands. Looking across the waters of the Bay of Island and the township of Russell, is the back drop to the delightful Waitangi Golf Course.
The signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, the treaty between the indigenous people of the land the Maori and the settlers the British, was held here at Waitangi.
The undulating landscape and native bush surround the fairways and greens of the front nine holes. However the back nine holes have the spectacular views. You may well have to share your game of golf with native birds like the Tui, Fantails, Australasian Harrier Hawks or a family of Canadian Quails.
